Ignorance, thankfully, is something that we can cure. Stupidity, on the other hand, is terminal.

For example;

"We are at a moment of truth and a crossroads. Will we allow these people to use fear and propaganda to do further harm to our society, economy, and our children? Or will we stand together and say, absolutely not. Not this time. I choose freedom."

A sitting United States senator spoke these "wise" (sic) words on mask-wearing and vaccinations recently. Randal Howard Paul is an American physician and politician serving as the junior United States Senator from Kentucky since 2011. He is the son of former three-time presidential candidate and twelve-term U.S. Representative of Texas, Ron Paul.

The 25th word in the above biography states that Senator Paul as being a physician! That's right, a Physician!!! Although his anti-mask and anti-vaccination tweets have thankfully been deleted in the last few weeks, he is also currently banned from uploading videos to YouTube that debunk the necessity of mask-wearing and the efficacy of vaccines against the COVID virus.

If spoken by the 'ordinary man or woman in the street, these opinions would be, on the whole, be debunked as ludicrous but, when said by a sitting member of the United States Senate who represents thousands of his constituents in Kentucky, it borders on criminal.

Only in America, right?

Well, not really, as these sorts of attitudes seem to have permeated the consciousness of ant-vaxers and conspiracy theorists across the globe.

However, back to America. In Missouri, (a state with one of the lowest vaccination records in the country), some citizens who wish to be vaccinated have taken to wearing disguises to avoid being recognised when getting a jab. This is so that their anti-vax friends and family remain ignorant to the fact that they are protecting themselves from a deadly virus.

An advertisement in the Ozark Healthcare Gazette is now offering 'private and discreet' appointments whereby those wishing to receive a dose will be afforded a private consultation room, removed from the public areas of the clinic. This devious behaviour prevents those willing to get their shot from being ostracised by family and friends simply for their belief in science.

This sort of behaviour by the 'secret 'jabbers or the indeed the clinic makes me furious. There are countless hundreds of million people in poorer countries who have no access to a life-saving vaccine and, if circumstances were different, they would be queueing up to get one. So getting a shot of Moderna or Astra Zeneca and treating it as an embarrassing secret is quite simply the height of western privilege.

It is those with the loudest voice that are doing the most damage. Fox News's smug, self-righteous Tucker Carlson, the world's leading biggot, leads the field of right-wing talking heads spreading chronic misinformation and conspiracy theories. He rants nightly about the' communist government' and their draconian actions to get the country to at least wear a mask or get a free vaccine yet refuses to answer journalists' questions about whether he has received a dose. ( I bet he has!)

His cohort on air, the blonde 'angel of death,' Laura Ingram smugly tells her audience each night that they are being lied to and deceived by a ‘communist' government. She persistently calls for the head of the embattled Dr Fauchi, whose only crime has been his scrupulous honesty in telling the American public the truth.

Finally, there is the irrepressible congresswoman and avid QAnon devotee Marjorie Taylor Green. She maliciously spreads misinformation like we spread jam onto a piece of toast. At rallies across the country, she lies so often it would make Pinocchio envious. Yet, her base seems to lap it up to the point that she elicited cheers from her audience at a recent rally in Alabama when she proudly announced that that particular state was the least vaccinated in the country.

When asked by a reporter whether she had received a vaccination, she claimed that she was not obliged to answer the question as she fell under the protection of something called the 'HIPPA rights'. This obscure law means that one is under no obligation to reveal one's medical records. I suspect that she is a chronic Hippa-crite, given she is technically a federal employee and, to take her seat in congress, must show that she has been vaccinated.

Most of this rant has centred on the United States of America, but, unfortunately, much of this ignorance prolificates the Western world.

Depressing, isn't it.

If only there were a vaccine that could eliminate stupidity !!!

I've been trying to avoid the rabid nonsense that has taken control on these pages but have no choice to make a comment now. fully concur with @Ian Weinberg and @Zacharias 🐝 Voulgaris Wow! The level of denial of the reality of whats going on in the world today is mindbogglingly. Sen. Paul Rand is a HERO and anyone who can't see that is totally oblivious. (And this has NOTHING to do with politics)

I wonder if the OP has revised his stance on this matter, given the new evidence on the efficacy of the Pfizer “vaccine” (or lack thereof) and the large number of casualties (i.e., people dying after taking it) during the test trials. Also, I wonder if the fact that the manufacturer of this miracle treatment tried to withhold this information from the public for 75 years (!) is taken at all into account. I have always been pro-vax and I have several doctors in my extended family but given the substantial amount of evidence regarding this experimental treatment and the dubious techniques used to promote it, I've maintained skepticism regarding it and those who write wrath-filled articles to belittle all those who refuse to buy into this narrative. Just my two cents on the matter…

Most unfortunate to witness this breakdown of respectful dialogue on these pages. I recall how we engaged in a space of mutual respect in the “old days”. On the subject of the vax, you'd be familiar with my anti-narrative stance as portrayed on LinkedIn and substack. This is not the appropriate place or time to spew out my perspective. However I feel I ought to set one record straight @Paul Walters Rand Paul is a very well read and wise medical specialist - he's an ophthalmologist who also has a post-grad degree in immunology. His main gripe and the one that I share with him is the disregard of the immunity derived from the natural infection and the coercion to be vaxed when one has documented immunity on blood testing. This is poor science and illogical. It raises a red flag regarding the real agenda behind mass and indiscriminate vaccination. Paul, I stopped commenting on posts about Covid a long time ago. No subject causes such polarization of beliefs.

As for everyone's right to be stupid, I read yesterday about a few cases of highly educated people but Coronavirus sceptics who died of Covid after they refused to go to the hospital. Despite having serious breathing difficulties, they claimed that Coronavirus is nothing more than a normal cold.

When someone asks me if I’m “anti-vaxxer” I respond wit, No, I’m “Pro-Science”

I am made to wonder about this:

If a person is vaccinated and now immune .. why the anger & disrespect toward those who choose not to.

If a person had COVID - does science NOT validate that person has natural immunity?

COVID is a catalyst of many MANY things

Everyone values different things, something I've come to respect. It's great that you value living in a country like that (I'd love to do the same someday). Not so great that you pass such harsh judgment on the foreigners that visit it, who value freedom more than some arbitrary measures. Personally I value truth first and foremost and I've dedicated my life to researching it. Naturally, freedom is essential for this so I'd side with those foreigners…

#9 Exactly! @Ken Boddie so having said that who has the right to contravene the Nuremberg Code, The Geneva Convention, virtually every national Charter/Bill of Rights and/or Constitution, not to mention our basic human rights, by mandating, making mandatory, the jabbing of an experimental gene altering irreversible “therapy”, into another human being??? Especially considering that there are several proven, (numerous peer reviewed papers and 50 years of history), fast, easy, very high efficacy, and SAFE cures that are being silenced, (Ivermectin, HCQ, Vitamin D booster, etc)

We are forgetting why these laws have been put into place…

Paul, The stupidity is overwhelming. And it is more embarassing if you live here. Lies are lies but those telling them believe them without substantiation. Governors, Senators and Representatives are all supposedly elected by “constituencies.” What does that say bout the intelligence level of the general public? Perhaps it is Mother Nature's way of pruning the human race. And so it goes.
