Blogger Me!!! Somebody Read My Post!!


A few weeks ago I posted a little piece on beBEE on the subject of being ‘liked’ on Facebook.

In the article, I included all the other sites that have adopted this curious practice of eliciting self- praise. Each of the social media sites, of course, try to put a different slant on the subject by asking their converts to ’compliment me’ or ‘connect with me’ or whatever.

The headline of my last post (feel free to visit it and “like ‘ away to your heart's content) was entitled; “Please Like Me. I’m feeling A Little Neglected.”

Now, I will admit to a daily ritual of checking my website to see how many folk ‘out there’ have actually read anything I write. I scan the stats, comparing last month’s visits with the current one.

I have to say that there are times when I am severely disappointed with the results. I have been known to ‘visit’ my own site several times a day just to make the miserable statistics look even vaguely appealing.

Of course, I like to delude myself into believing that there are millions of avid readers out there digesting my literary prowess over their collective breakfasts, muttering to spouses or friends, “ You know, I love this guy’s stuff.”

However much to my surprise, there must have been something in the nature of the headline of that particular blog that elicited some sort of sympathy vote, for suddenly the numbers shot up to an all-time high. (Seven, if I recall correctly)

Seriously though, people from around the globe obviously thought to ‘give this poor sod a good day’ by at least clicking on the post. The ‘ like’ phenomena kicked in and suddenly the site was swamped and, even on Facebook where the weekly blogs appear, I received two likes from Mongolia, one from Papua New Guinea and another from a country I have never heard of.

Oh, the wonderful reach off the Internet!

I walked around on a cloud of euphoria for the entire day.

I do wonder sometimes about writing a piece each week as every individual connected to the internet must, and certainly does become inundated with ‘stuff’ that quite frankly not many of us have the time or inclination to read.

However, if I didn’t remain diligent, I fear I would spend more time drinking beer and watching sport and indulging in my all time favourite hobby, sloth! So let's see how this little bugger goes this week as who knows? Maybe I might just strike a chord out there somewhere.

But for now you will have to excuse me and I apologise if I cut this week's offering a little short…as I must away to my Mongolian language lesson!

Takeaways: The country you didn't know has internet and people who can read. It's a good and safe cure for depression, get sympathy likes without the fees and the disclosures. Learn to reinvent misery ?? Probably do it online and not in the real world. Your pastimes are pretty much a good way of life, the head isn't stressed and can work full throttle

Paul, when I typed the name of your last post it took me to your post named „Won't You Please 'Like' Me, I'm Feeling A Little Neglected“, published on LinkedIn in 2014. I don't think this is the post of which you have spoken. Nevertheless, I liked this one as well.😄 Realistically speaking, being found and read among thousands of blog posts published daily is a miracle by itself. So, every like we got is valuable.

Paul Walters I encourage you to get a life. Nonetheless, you may always count on me for a "sympathy" click on relevant. There's nothing wrong with drinking Jameson (beer is too filling), watching sport, and perfecting the sloth lifestyle. From one sloth to another. I have elevated procrastination to an art form. @Dean Owen You are right I scribble for Colors ( Garuda) Qnyx, ()Qatar Kris Flyer ( SIngapore) and on occasions for 360 ( air Asia) and Q ( Qantas) and Emirites.You are dead right sometimes ,under another name as they are pretty precious and think you only write for them....Its an in- flight mag for Gods sake!!
